SAXON LUDOLPH. Vita christi salvatoris nostri.... Leucolphum - Lot 79
SAXON LUDOLPH. Vita christi salvatoris nostri.... Leucolphum of Saxonia patrem in carthusia... Per Bertrandum Stephani. Paris, Félix Baligault, 18 May 1497. In folio of 295-1bl. leaves (a-z8; A-N8, O7), cold-stamped woodblocks, (binding of the period). This work, which first appeared in Strasbourg in 1474, was one of the most widespread writings of the 14th and 15th centuries. Ludolphe of Saxony, a German ascetic writer, was Prior of the Charterhouse of Strasbourg. Beautiful incunabulum decorated with the great and spectacular mark of F. Baligault, printed in red. Text printed on 2 columns in gothic characters, entirely rubbed in red and blue, including many handwritten scholies of the time. Ancient restorations to the hinges and on a part of the dishes, a detached dish, back missing, the interior has remained very fresh. Armorial ex-libris of Count Roger de Barbentane. (ISTC, il00348000).
