Michel Caugant (20th century) - Lot 97
Michel Caugant (20th century) Set of two terrines Made of polychrome earthenware. Both are shaped like lobsters in high relief. The first terrine is “natural,” while the second is red and accented with gilding. 20th century L. 26 cm – 34.5 cm Minor wear to the gilding In the 1960s, after taking over the family charcuterie business in Brittany, Michel Caugant came up with the idea of marketing his pâtés in hand-painted, zoomorphic earthenware terrines. Enhancing the product with a high-quality container—that was his strategy for standing out from the competition: the duck, the hare, the deer, the goose, the rabbit, the ostrich, the sole, the rooster, the partridge… A cheerful menagerie was born!
