Michel Caugant - Lot 70
Michel Caugant Set of two terrines “Le Tourteau” Terrine Made of polychrome earthenware. Features a stylized, relief-carved crab design. Second half of the 20th century W. 20 cm - D. 15.5 cm “Le homard” terrine Made of polychrome earthenware. Features a stylized, relief-carved lobster design. Second half of the 20th century W: 34.5 cm - D: 16.5 cm In the 1960s, after taking over the family charcuterie business in Brittany, Michel Caugant came up with the idea of marketing his pâtés in hand-painted, animal-shaped earthenware terrines. Enhancing the product with a high-quality container—that was his strategy for standing out from the competition: the duck, the hare, the deer, the goose, the rabbit, the ostrich, the sole, the rooster, the partridge… A cheerful bestiary was born!
