Military cane - Lot 620
Military cane Made of stained, carved wood and glass. The pommel is carved in the round and attached to the shaft; it is decorated with a dog’s bust and a rounded ridge that secures the grip on the pommel. The wooden shaft is entirely carved with a snake, featuring beautiful scales on one side and, on the other side, in six superimposed registers, grapevines accompanied by the date “1906,” followed by a couple—the husband visibly drunk, causing his wife to flee—then two African-themed registers featuring an ostrich, a snake coiled around a palm tree and a giraffe, followed by a bouquet of flowers, an elephant on an ornate base, twigs, and finally a branch of ivy rising from a beautifully carved ferrule. A cane belonging to a soldier stationed in Africa? Early 20th century H. 89 cm Small cracks
