# TÉKÉ, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO - Lot 261
# TÉKÉ, DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF THE CONGO Very old and rare Tsaye mask in light wood and polychrome. It has two pairs of eyes and is decorated with curves and two clovers. Very fine patina. 19th century H. 32 cm - L. 35 cm Traces of long ritual use Provenance: Almost identical to the one in the Barbier-Muller collection (ex André Derain, 1880-1954) in terms of workmanship and, above all, its unquestionable age. It is a reference model that can be found in all works on the iconography of African art. It may even have come from the same workshop as Derain's.
