CERVANTES - DALI. DON QUICHOTTE DE LA MANCHE. Original litho - Lot 138
CERVANTES - DALI. DON QUICHOTTE DE LA MANCHE. Original lithographs by Salvador Dali. Paris, J. Foret, 1957. In folio leaves, illustrated cover, publisher's blue folder and slipcase. "The lithographs of my Quixote will be the lithographs of the century" (Salvador Dali). For the first time, the artist uses lithographic collages with a wide variety of projections: harquebus balls and sinkers, snails, insects, a small toad, as well as gravel, clay balls, putty, eggs and sea urchins. To trace the wings of the windmills, the artist stuffed a rhinoceros horn with breadcrumbs... ! These lithographic collages alone, in the opinion of the craftsmen and master lithographers, constitute an unprecedented and inimitable achievement. The illustration comprises 12 original lithographs, including 3 double-page spreads and 9 full-page spreads. Unique edition of 197 copies, this one of 118 numbered on Rives B.F.K. Traces of sunstain on the slipcase, inside intact.
