He returned to Paris several times, notably with his wife Lazarine, in 1910, to visit her parents. During his trip to Paris, the painter painted "Le boulevard Montparnasse", a Parisian landmark of artistic modernity in the early 20th century. Rippl-Rónai captures passers-by and carioles in motion on the boulevard. The bustling, vibrant atmosphere resonates with the plurality of strokes, a remarkable example of his so-called "corn grain" style he adopted in Kaposvár. The composition is punctuated by vertical lines and repeated motifs, such as the cariole, the passer-by or the building. These elements, combined with strong contour lines, visible in particular through reserves, give the work a striking visual power. We can relate this painting to the famous "Observatory Square", painted in 1914 and kept at the Hungarian National Gallery (Magyar Nemzeti Galéria), under inventory number FK8946.
