In this capacity, he was responsible not only for the security of Napoleon and his family, but also for the organization of their day-to-day life, overseeing the stewardship of the palace: furnishings, food supplies, travel arrangements, garden maintenance and so on. He was also involved in the organization of major official ceremonies, such as the coronation in 1804. Because of the importance of his duties, Duroc accompanied Napoleon on all his travels, including military campaigns.
