Léon Auguste ASSELINEAU (1808 - 1889) & others
Color lithograph on vellum from the famous series "La France de nos jours".
H. 29 cm - L. 39 cm (view)
Asselineau, trained in the tradition of architectural drawing and topographical views, was one of the most active illustrators of the mid-19ᵉ century. He collaborated with major Parisian publishers (notably Lemercier, Thierry frères, or Becquet) and took part in numerous suites devoted to French monuments, towns and landscapes. In "La France de nos jours", a series of lithographs devoted to city views under the Second Empire, his contribution stands out for its remarkable topographical accuracy, inherited from his work as an architect-draftsman.
