CHANTRON, Antoine (Father 1771 - 1842). Croquis de route [label affixed to front cover]. Italian-style in-4° album of 39 sketches, mostly executed in pencil on paper, in sizes ranging from approximately 19.5 x 20.5 cm for the largest to 8 x 14.5 cm for the smallest, some captioned and dated, one of them signed A C, laminated, sometimes with scotch tape at the corners. Most of the images concern Provence, Languedoc and Dauphiné. Subjects represented: Lebel castles in Pont Sur Royan , Beauvais, Montfaucon, Arles, Vaison, Roquemaure, Mondevergues, Saumane, Tarascon... Towns and villages: Beaucaire, Avignon, Barbentane, St Léger près de St Chamas, Tarascon, Environs d'Aix ( ink and ink wash), Catalans and Pharo in Marseille, Fréjus (large format, very fine execution), l'Isle [Sur Sorgue?]... Cuves de Sassenage, Canal d'Istre and Etang de Berre... His son, born in 1819, was also a talented draughtsman.
