ARTEFEUIL .- Histoire héroïque et universelle de la Noblesse de Provence, Avignon, Veuve Girard, 1757 - 1759 for t. I and II, and Avignon, François Seguin, 1786, for T III entitled Supplément; 3 vol. in - 4°, marbled basane, gilt-edged ribbed spine, marbled edges (period binding). The set is complete with eight folding tables of some 900 coats of arms and the frontispiece engraved by COUSSIN. Ex libris (Saffroy, II, 32852 & 32854). T. I: (4 )ff., XIV, 549 pp. front. and 4 folding plates of coats of arms. Unavoidable tears, not missing. Marginal tear to frontispiece with slight loss of paper, lower hinges cracked, rubbed edges, slight loss of skin on first cover. T. II: (2) ff, 608 (inversion of leaves in table), 185, (1 leaf). In this last part, which begins on page 3, warning, leaf A1 is missing. 4 folding plates of coats of arms. Unavoidable tears, but not missing. Some scattered foxing, edges of 2 leaves of the table creased and sometimes chipped, small hole not serious on p. 161, last part. Upper headband frayed, lower headband damaged, binding slightly flaking. T III: VIII, 344 pp. Volume III is a reprint of vol. s. l. n. d., published in 1786, in the same typeface as T I and II (Saffroy, 32854 indicates 352 pp. however, our ex. ends with the word FIN). The second supplement of 63 pp. is missing here. Upper headband damaged, binding slightly flaking.1 fold-out table detached, torn at folds, not missing, but not reported by Saffroy. False title detached, frayed. Saffroy: "Excellent work, considering the defects of all the books of its time; many biographies are given, the dates almost always exact. It is becoming rare, especially complete with all its supplements". Good overall condition, despite the reported defects.
