Leonetto CAPPIELLO (1875-1942) Parapluie Revel, 1922 [1929] Large lithographic poster composed of three vertically assembled strips, signed and dated in the plate lower left and bearing in the margin the mark of the printer Devambez, 32 rue Beaujon, Paris. H. 315 cm - L. 200 cm DV Old canvas, slight soiling, stains and minor foxing Bibliography : Collectif, Cappiello, caricatures, posters, paintings and decorative projects, catalog of the Grand Palais exhibition, Paris, April 3 to June 29, 1981, a similar example exhibited under no. 309 and described by Réjane Bargiel-Harry as follows: "The impact of this poster lies in the strength of the line that supports its composition. The general movement is given by the position of the umbrellas, summarized by Pierre Andrin as a black range of three storm-tossed umbrellas. The economy of means with which Capiello suggests the driving rain and wind is quite exemplary". Jack Rennert, Cappiello, The posters of Leonetto Cappiello, New York, The Posters Art Library Posters Please Inc. 2004, the poster described under n°373 and reproduced full-page in color on pages 236 and 237.
