(1726). LA FONTAINE. OEUVRES. Anvers, frères Jacob et Henry Sauvage, (Paris, Lancelot), 1726. 3 volumes in-4°, blond calf, ornate ribbed spine, red pages (period binding). First edition of the works. The text is framed and illustrated with a portrait of La Fontaine by Dufflos, 3 title finials and 3 head vignettes engraved in intaglio by Tardieu. The copy, conforming to Rochambeau's description, is complete with the warning leaflets in volumes I and III, and the two dedication leaflets to Cardinal de Bouillon in the third volume. Light foxing and spotting, a few pages browned, spine ends cracked and minor damage. (Rochambeau, p. 639, no. 1). Fine bookplate with the monogram ES and the motto "Quotque aderant vates rebar adesse deo".
