Officer's saber Vendémiaire AN XII
Single-branch brass mounting, beaded pommel, striated ebony spindle, body knot with antique helmet and trophies of arms, acanthus leaf half-ears, lion's head quillon curved downwards. Curved, one-third damascus blade with bevelled back decorated with cabalistic motifs in gold (significant lack of gilding), gutters and counter-edge. Blued sheet-iron scabbard (brass V-shaped bowl missing), with strong brass bracelets decorated with lines, brass bolt with lyre sting, later cane strap, oxidation, missing parts.
