Rare two-tone linen damask game carpet, Germany, second third of the 18th century, cream and red woven linen damask. Decorated on the theme of aristocratic parties and entertainments: in the center, a card game in a drawing room; along the border, musicians, dancers and couples at tables, one raising a glass, the other enjoying a cup of tea. Hemmed border on the top and bottom, (a few minor accidents), 104 x 94 cm The Victoria & Albert Museum holds four German table rugs in two-tone linen damask of the same type, one of them with a dance theme, (T.57-1911).
