Bird embroidered hanging, Canton workshops, China, circa 1880, Redcurrant silk satin, brightly embroidered with polychrome silk in shaded pastel, flat pastel and oriental stitch. Decorated with a gnarled blossom-tree lake landscape, populated by a multitude of birds including ducks, peacocks, pheasants, paradise birds, birds of prey and waders. Peony garlands embroidered in gold on satin. Lined with taffeta, (parts fused), 375 x 180 cm.
