Paris, Th. ORIGINAL EDITION republished in 1841 under a new title and with the fictitious mention "Nouvelle Édition". Second voyage around the world by a Frenchman after Bougainville. This circumnavigation, led by Étienne Marchand from December 14, 1790 to August 14, 1792, led to the discovery of new islands unknown to the earlier navigators and to Cook. The work is of great importance as far as Oceania is concerned: it contains vital observations on navigation of the Great Ocean, and gives a large number of topographical, geographical and astronomical descriptions, as well as interesting notes on the customs and habits of the islanders. The atlas consists of 16 PRECIOUS MAPS (Sandwich Islands, Strait of Entre Banca and Billiton...). Freckling, small scattered light rings, well-executed restorations to covers and hinges.
