FINE (Oronce). LA THEORIE DES CIEUX ET SEPT PLANETES, avec leurs mouvements... pour la cognoissance de l'université de ce hault monde céleste. Paris, Denise Cavellat, 1607. In-12 of 101 leaves (out of 103), soft ivory vellum (period binding). This treatise is the first French work to be published by Oronce Finé, professor of mathematics under François 1er, and is considered the FIRST BOOK OF ASTROLOGY PRINTED IN FRENCH, as well as the longest-lasting in use. Finé describes celestial movements and the disposition of the 7 planets known at the time, as well as eclipses, the 12 houses of the heavens and the 12 signs of the Zodiac. It is rare and illustrated with 46 ASTRONOMIC FIGURES engraved by Finé himself. The last 2 leaves are missing. Light rings on the first few leaves and some foxing. (Brunet II, 1260) (USTC 6024458).
