DESAGULIERS (John Théophilus). COURS DE PHYSIQUE EXPERIMENTA - Lot 42
DESAGULIERS (John Théophilus). COURS DE PHYSIQUE EXPERIMENTALE. Paris, Jacques Rollin, Charles-Antoine Jombert, 1751. 2 volumes in-4°, marbled calf, ornate ribbed spine, red edges (period binding). First French edition translated from English by Jesuit Father Pezenas. This important treatise, first published in London in 1725, follows Newtonian theories and is generously illustrated with 78 DELIGHTING GRAVE PLANCHES illustrating the author's experiments. It should be noted that the term "conductor" in electricity is due to Desaguliers. Scattered foxing, one plate with a hole along the length, another with a gap in the margin, damaged headbands, one spine split.
