Attractive edition illustrated with a portrait of the King of Sweden, with a supplement by M. de La Motraye entitled REMARQUES HISTORIQUES ET CRITIQUES sur l'histoire de Charles XII by Voltaire, bound after and with its own title. 63 pages with portrait. A precious copy bearing the ARMS OF THE MARQUISE DE POMPADOUR, title mistress of Louis XV and listed in the catalog of his sale in 1765 under no. 3249. One headband missing, one hinge cracked, and a small loss at the bottom of the second plate (O.H.R. 2399, iron no. 4, with variants). Provenance: Marquise de Pompadour.
