CRINITO (Pietro). DE HONESTA DISCIPLINA LIB. XXV, poetis lat - Lot 100
CRINITO (Pietro). DE HONESTA DISCIPLINA LIB. XXV, poetis latinis lib. V et poematon lib. II ; cum indicibus.
Paris, J. Bade and J. Petit, (1510).
In-folio of [8]-141 (mal chiffr.139) leaves, half vellum with corners (19th century binding).
The author (1475-1507) is best known for the section entitled "De Honesta Disciplina", published in 1504, which Nostradamus is said to have used as inspiration for certain passages in his Prophecies. Pietro Crinito studied rhetoric under Politian, of whom he was one of the most important disciples. He inherited his library and papers, and was his posthumous publisher. He met Savonarola, Pico della Mirandola and participated in the Platonic Academy.
Second collective edition published and printed by Josse Bade, with the title in red and black and the mark of Jehan Petit. Binding a little stained, otherwise a fine copy annotated in the margins by a contemporary reader (USTC 143575, 4 copies) (Renouard, Ascensius, II, 351, no. 2).
