Japan, late 19th century Rectangular tray in lacquered wood, the central scene in gold maki-e lacquer depicting two ducks swimming in front of a small prunus in bloom on a black lacquer background, framed by a tsuishu (carved red lacquer) frieze of Greek forms, and a tsuishu border with chrysanthemum flower motifs. Wear H. 27.4 cm- L. 42.6 cm We enclose three prints on crepe paper by Kunisada II, mounted in a triptych. H. 25 cm- L. 54 cm Glued, worn.
