Japan, 19th century Ivory manju netsuke in two parts, depicting the famous poetess Ono no Komachi carved in shishiaibori, seated and washing in a basin a book of poems to prove her honesty (after being accused of plagiarism), incised on the reverse of a ewer and a book, with the signature Ryukoku 流谷. Wear, small accidents to rim. D. 4.1 cm ; H. 1.7 cm Provenance: Collection of Madame R. We enclose its CITES certificate.
