Japan, Edo period (1615-1868) Natural iron helmet (kabuto) of the fuji-bashi type with 32 slats (rivets visible but not in relief), the three-tiered tehen-kanamono in gilded copper, lobed and incised with scrolls, a wide natural iron visor (the underside red lacquered), the brown lacquered fukigaeshi with copper fukurin, the shikoro with three brown lacquered iron slats, lacquered in dark blue and green. L. 31.5 (bowl); total L. 36.5 cm. A few chips on the shikoro.
