Senneh carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), Northwest P - Lot 197
Senneh carpet (cotton warp and weft, wool pile), Northwest Persia, circa 1930-1960 H. 196 cm - L. 136 cm AC The town of Senneh or Sanandaj has long been renowned for the finesse of its carpets, both in terms of knotting and weaving execution, and decorative motifs. Kurdistan wool is long and lustrous, but dry and rough, accentuated by short shaving. Senneh carpets are finely knotted, often with a silk warp and a single, tightly-woven cotton weft. This one is adorned with the classic Herati motif, which covers the entire field with a hexagon on a plain ivory background. It is framed by an ivory border with a flower garland set between fine floral counter-borders. Slight wear and stains
