Georges d'ESPAGNAT (1870-1950) Two children in a garden Oil on canvas, monogrammed lower left H. 43 cm L. 145 cm HVS Provenance : Joseph Durand-Ruel Collection (1862-1928) In 1900, art dealer Joseph Durand-Ruel acquired a series of paintings by Georges d'Espagnat to decorate the grand salon of his apartment at 37, rue de Rome, Paris. The work shown here was a door overlay, as it appears in a photograph of Joseph Durand-Ruel's salon (cf. "Paul Durand-Ruel et le post-impressionnisme", édition in fine, 2021, p. 14). This decoration, now dispersed, was recently honored in Madrid at the exhibition "Paul Durand-Ruel y los ultimos destellos del impresionismo" at the Mapfre Foundation, where a whole group of works by Georges d'Espagnat for the salon on the rue de Rome was brought together.
