[ESSAI SUR LES TROUPES PROVINCIALES. Sans lieu ni nom, 1773. In-8 of [2]-16-[2]-96 pages, blond calf, very ornate smooth spine, red tr. (period binding).
The only obviously rare edition, which presents a project for the formation of mobile guards in each province. These provincial troops, formerly known as militias, took their place in the infantry after the regiments created under Louis XIV.
A good copy enriched with 6 watercolor documents: 1 plate showing a soldier leaving his home - Remply provincial service mark - 2 unfolded blank permissions - A folded reform leave. - One unfinished plate (coat of arms?). (Barbier II, 264).
