LA HARPE (Jean-François de). ABREGE DE L'HISTOIRE GENERALE DES VOYAGES. Paris, Thou, 1780-1798. 25 vol. in-8, porphyry calf, gilt roulette framing the boards, smooth spine finely decorated with four gilt irons (palm tree, rosette, fleuron, vase), speckled edges (Devers). "Abrégé contenant ce qu'il y a de plus remarquable, de plus utile & de mieux avéré dans les pays où les voyageurs ont pénétré; les mœurs des habitants, la religion, les usages...". The first 21 volumes bring together all the volumes on which La Harpe worked, while the last four contain Cook's third voyage. The set is illustrated with 88 plates, including a frontispiece and 15 folding plates, and 2 folding tables. Minor damage to bindings, scattered freckles and stains, several galleries sometimes with loss of letters, lacks the atlas and 3 plates. Finely bound by Claude Devers, famous bookbinder in Lyon and Paris, with the inscription "relié par Devers" at the bottom of the spines.
