The Amour et Psyché group was the last work on which the celebrated Romantic artist James Pradier worked before his death in 1852. He had planned to produce a marble version. The plaster model was sold under no. 7 at the auction held after his death on July 26, 1852. It was acquired by François Félix Roubaud, one of his last pupils, who created the bas-relief of La Poésie légère after one of his models for his tomb. Roubaud executes a marble group of Amour et Psyché after the master's model presented in 1858 in Blois. ( L'Artiste, vol LXII, 1859, p.83. Roubaud also had bronze proofs made, on which he inscribed Propriété de F.F. Roubaud next to Pradier's name.
