[LARIVEY]. LANCEREAU, Edouard (1819-1895), French Indianist - Lot 181
[LARIVEY]. LANCEREAU, Edouard (1819-1895), French Indianist and translator. Manuscript entitled "Pierre de La Rivey. La philosophie fabuleuse revue et corrigée" Unpublished autograph manuscript, 327 ff. (654 p.). Numerous punctuation corrections and additions in brown or red ink. Pierre de Larivey (1541-1619), canon of Troyes, French writer, translator and dramatist of the 16th century, had Les Deux livres de Filosofie fabuleuse published in Paris in 1577. The work is a new translation of Agnolo Firenzuola's "La prima veste dei discorsi degli animali", to which the translator added a second book, taken from Doni's "Trattati diversi". The latter works are the Italian versions of the Book of Kallila and Dimna, the Arabic version, translated from Persian, of the Panchatantra, hence Lancereau's interest in this text. MLL
