Yves KLEIN (1929-1962). - Lot 196
Yves KLEIN (1929-1962). Autograph manuscript, 2 pp. in-4. Undated [ca. 1959]. Unpublished variant of a seminal text included in "Le dépassement de la problématique de l'art", in which he describes his early pictorial experiences and the genesis of the role of color in his painting. "Sometimes, under my father's influence, I'd paint or draw little horses in a landscape, or the sea, and my father would say "wonderful, very beautiful, continue..."; sometimes, under my mother's influence, I'd execute an abstract composition, and my mother would exclaim with wonder "that's wonderful, what a talent, continue...". And, all the while, color - pure sensitive space and its objective appearance - would wink at me irregularly, but each time more impressively, and this sensation of total freedom would exert such a power of attraction over me that I would paint monochrome surfaces to "see", with my own eyes, what sensitivity was granting me... absolute freedom...! ! But each time I couldn't imagine or think of the possibility of considering it as a painting, a picture... until one day I said "why not? The "Why not" in a man's life is what decides his destiny, it's the signal to the budding creator that the archetype of a new state of things is ready, formed, matured and can be used for materialization!!!". Very rare. MLL
