[DELACROIX, Eugène]. Copy of Delacroix's letter to painter P - Lot 171
[DELACROIX, Eugène]. Copy of Delacroix's letter to painter Paul Huet (1803-1869) dated "April 24" [1855]. 1 p. ½ in-8.
Huet copies Delacroix's beautiful letter to him about his painting "L'Inondation de Saint-Cloud" (The Flood of Saint-Cloud), now in the Musée du Louvre: "I think I'll give you some pleasure by telling you about the pleasure your paintings gave me at the exhibition. Your great flood is a masterpiece. It pulverizes the search for fashionable little effects: your river also does very well and they are also very well and they are all three placed in such a way that they give each other mutual vigor. I hope you will be pleased with what everyone tells you about it; for my judgment is that which I have heard from all those who have seen you [...]".
L'Inondation de Saint-Cloud, an oil on canvas by Paul Huet, was first exhibited at the 1855 Universal Exhibition. It is now in the collections of the Musée du Louvre.
Delacroix's letter had neither signature nor year on the date.
