François-Auguste RAVIER (1814-1895) - Lot 478
François-Auguste RAVIER (1814-1895)
Crémieu, the valley.
Circa 1850-60
Oil study, oil on paper
H. 24.5 cm - L. 29.5 cm CBT
Unsigned
Certified on the back by CBT in 1993.
In this preparatory work, Ravier finalized the sky in a study that is technically remarkable for its brushwork and liveliness. We can make out the preparatory brushwork, the light blue pigment of the sky and the cream/white flat tints for the clouds, giving thickness and life to the sky, which contrasts with the shadowy, almost transparent valley, just illuminated by the meadow in a luminous yellow-green.
