France Mameluk sword Black wooden handle in the shape of an old screwed pistol grip (traces of old screws and bolts, missing an olive-shaped rivet), floral cruise, spider-webbed auricle, finished with inverted feline heads. Curved, flat-backed blade with a slight taper in the last third, oxidation in places. Leather scabbard with 2 rings, bracelets with leonine mask on one side and floral decoration on the other, clevis engraved with a spider's web as well as the top of the bolt, accidents and missing, slightly missing tip. Directoire - First Empire period L. 89 cm The recurrent use of the spider web motif as an element of ornamentation suggests that this saber may have belonged to an officer of the guard or one close to the sovereign/head of state.
