First edition of the first book by Florentine humanist Gabriel Symeoni (1509-1576), a collection of poems, letters and dialogues dedicated to Como de' Medici. In the dialogue "Della forma dell'arme de Medici", illustrated with a number of figures, Symeoni analyzes the sometimes occult emblems and symbols of the Medici coat of arms. The second and last parts contain essays on earthquakes, the nature of dreams, the sun and the Tuscan dialect. Beautifully printed in italics, this Venetian edition features a woodcut portrait of the author on the title page. A fine copy (USTC 856447) (Brunet V, 392).
