(1544). CICERON. ORATIONES PHILIPPICAE IN M. ANTONIUM. - Lot 210

(1544). CICERON. ORATIONES PHILIPPICAE IN M. ANTONIUM. Paris, Joannem Lodoicum Tiletanum, 1544. In-4° of 108 (misf. 118) leaves, stiff vellum (later binding). Ex adverso Collegii Remensis" student booklet containing comments by Barthélémy Latomus (1497-1570), professor at the Collège de France and admirer of Ciceronian eloquence. Teaching methods in 16th-century Paris were based on commentaries on ancient authors. Professors therefore had selected pieces, chapters or entire books of ancient Greek or Latin authors specially printed for their courses. These opuscules sometimes consisted of just a few pages, and sometimes of volumes of over 100 pages. All these works, printed in small numbers and abused by students, are very rare. Several pages are covered with handwritten annotations. A good copy.
