(1542). SIDOINE APOLLINAIRE. LUCUBRATIONES, LIBERALIUM LITERARUM STUDIOSIS cognoscendae & iterum atque iterum repetende item Joannis Baptistae pii commentaria. Basel, Henri Pierre, March 1542. Small in-4° of [24]-494-[2] pages, red morocco half-basin, smooth spine (19th century binding). "Independently of their own merit, Sidoine's writings must be considered a precious monument of literature. Simple, true, picturesque, it abounds in detail... For our Gauls, he is the Caesar and Tacitus of the Middle Ages". (Nodier, Bibl. sacrée, 253). Good edition, the title of which is decorated with a large historiated frame, containing commentaries by J.B. Pio. Several leaves are faded, the last of which is clumsily repaired. (USTC, 617648).
