(1532). UGONI (Mattia). SYNODIA UGONIA EPISCOPI PHAMAVGUSTAN - Lot 147
(1532). UGONI (Mattia). SYNODIA UGONIA EPISCOPI PHAMAVGUSTANI. DE CONCILIIS.
(Toscolano, Paganino I Paganini, 1532).
In-folio of [4]-145 leaves, ivory soft vellum (contemporary binding).
Remarkable and very rare Gothic printing on 2 columns by Alexandro Paganini. Paganini, who had settled in Salo in 1517, chose the small village of Toscolano, a small port on Lake Garda, to found a lasting settlement (1521-1533).
It was here that he made use of those bizarre Gothic characters that belong to him alone. Mattia Ugoni (1445-1535) bishop of Famagusta, Cyprus, describes the incorporation of a general council with its powers and jurisdiction, to discuss papal authority.
Binding in poor condition with part of the spine badly restored, interior in fine condition. Handwritten bookplate Raymundi di Ramponibus, (Bishop of Bologna?). (USTC 861542, 1534?) (Deschamps, p. 1274).
