(1506). BOCCACIO (G). [DE MULIERIBUS CLARIS]. Venetia per maistro Zuanne de Trino, G. Tacuino, 6 mars 1506. In-4° of 150 (out of 152) leaves, stiff vellum (19th century binding). Vincenzo Bagli's first Italian translation in a fine Venetian printing in round letters, profusely illustrated with 104 woodcuts (60 x 70 mm., some repeated) in the text, full-length portraits of famous women, both historical and mythological, from Eve to Giovanna of Jerusalem, not forgetting Cleopatra and Papess Joan. The work was composed by Boccaccio around 1360, and each figure is accompanied by a short biography, like Plutarch's Illustrious Men, of which it forms the natural counterpart. The title and folio A5 are missing, there is some foxing and a few leaves have been trimmed short at the head (USTC, 814731, 24 copies).
