(1500). GUILLAUME D'AUVERGNE. POSTILLA GUILLERMI IN EVANGELI - Lot 29

(1500). GUILLAUME D'AUVERGNE. POSTILLA GUILLERMI IN EVANGELIA ET EPISTOLAS DE TEMPORE ET SANCTIS... No place, name or date (circa 1500?). Small gothic in-4° of 92 leaves, brown calf, cold-stamped boards, cords (modern binding). Apparently unknown edition of this commentary on the Gospels and the letters of the Apostles by Guillaume d'Auvergne, who died in 1249, confessor to Saint Louis and bishop of Paris. The title, printed in red, is adorned with a large woodcut reminiscent of Urs Graf's style, showing the globe crowned by a cross with the doctors of the church and the symbols of the evangelists around it; on the verso is a beautiful crucifixion scene, followed by 45 BEAUTIFUL WOODCUTTING in the text (50 x 65 mm) surrounded by the commentaries of the famous theologian. This appears to be a forgery of one of Michel Furter's Basel editions, printed in Basel around 1500. Repairs to title not missing.
