(1472). ANTONIN PIEROZZI DE FORCIGLIONI. CONFESSIONALE. - Lot 4

(1472). ANTONIN PIEROZZI DE FORCIGLIONI. CONFESSIONALE. Bologna, Balthazar Azoguidus, 1472. Small folio (245 x 165 mm) of 85 leaves, 32 lines per page, round letters. Wooden boards covered with brown calf, boards cold-stamped with wide lace and fillets, with a cross semis in the center (period binding). ONE OF THE MOST ELEGANT BOOKS OF THE 15th CENTURY, according to Fumagalli. Azzoguidi was Bologna's prototypographer, and his first book attesting to the establishment of printing in that city dates from 1471, a year before this one; the typography and layout are of rare distinction. It is entirely rubricated in red and blue at the time, and has retained wide margins. Missing 17 leaves, including 2 table leaves. Title torn at corner, several leaves rebacked, the copy has been rebound in its original binding, with the spine entirely redone. (ISTC, ia00843000, 22 copies).
