BORDEAUX. MANUFACTURE JULES VIEILLARD & Cie. Fine earthenware tea and coffee service with decorations attributed to Amédée de Caranza, including: A covered teapot and coffee pot, a covered milk jug, a covered sugar bowl, twelve cups and eleven saucers with polychrome Japanese decoration of characters, birds, fish and plants on a pale yellow background. Bamboo handles and spouts, turquoise conical lid grips. The coffee pot is decorated on one side with a Chinese woman in a basket suspended along a rock face, and on the other with a musician seated on a rock, surrounded by swallows. H: 17.5cm (A small crack and a chip on the lid) The teapot decorated on one side with a man riding a carp and on the other with a man in kimono seen from behind. H: 13 cm (a small crack) The sugar bowl decorated with a sinner on one side and a seated man smoking in a landscape with cherry trees and bamboo. Height: 10 cm The milk jug decorated with a seated man playing the Shamisen on one side and a seated scholar on the other. H : 8,5 cm The cups are decorated with flowers and foliage H: 4.5 cm D: 9.5 cm (two with hair) The saucers are decorated with active figures dressed in kimonos in exotic landscapes with flowering trees, bamboo and reeds.
