Lot n° 209.2
LOTS 210 to 377 - COLLECTION FRANCOISE ET PIERRE DEGUINGAND - Lot 209
LOTS 210 to 377 - COLLECTION FRANCOISE ET PIERRE DEGUINGAND Exceptional earthenware collection of almost 220 lots, from the family of Charles Roubaud, famous collector from Marseille. On November 8, during the Mobilier et Objets d'art sale in Marseille, the first part of an exceptional earthenware collection of almost 220 lots from the family of Charles Roubaud, a famous collector from Marseille, will be auctioned. The pieces in this collection, mainly from the 18th century, bear witness to the expertise of the factories of Marseille, Italy and Moustiers, whose reputation dates back to the early 17th century. Through this auction, Françoise and Pierre Deguingand hope to "keep the collection alive and bring happiness to other enthusiasts". Heirs to this rare collection, Françoise and Pierre Deguingand decided to make it their own in order to "study it and bring it to life". By joining the Association pour l'étude de la Céramique, and the Académie de Moustiers, these new collectors were able to satisfy their "thirst for knowledge" while "benefiting from advice and expertise." This collection was started in 1938 by Charles Roubaud (Jean's brother, author of a magnificent collection known to all enthusiasts). Charles Roubaud, a passionate man of Marseilles origin living in Montpellier, scoured auction rooms, antique dealers, brocanteurs, etc.... He has built up a highly eclectic collection. He is also very discreet about his collection. He lists all his pieces in a notebook: purchases, sellers, dates, prices and the "supposed" origin of each piece - this document is a treasure trove. "And what a joy it is to discover a new set, never described, never reproduced? We felt the same emotion when we discovered seven pieces, five plates and two small dishes with Astrée decorations, grand feu, from a completely new Moustiers service, (presented at these sales)". After this period of study, the collection expanded: "new pieces, mainly from Moustiers, Apt, Montpellier, Marseille and its porcelains...". To share the collection with ceramics enthusiasts, it was presented at the Musée de Niort in two exhibitions in 2010 and 2011, as well as at meetings with members of the Association pour l'étude de la céramique and a 2-day colloquium at the Musée de Niort. All these events were a resounding success. The first part of the collection will be auctioned on Wednesday November 8 at DE BAECQUE MARSEILLE. The second part will follow in Spring. Two successive opportunities to acquire one of these exceptional pieces.
