19th century FRENCH SCHOOL - Lot 98
19th century FRENCH SCHOOL Velléda Oil on canvas, signed and dated 1866 lower left H. 40 cm - L. 32 cm HVS Restorations The composition appears to be inspired by "Velléda" (1852) by Alexandre Cabanel (1823-1889), currently in the Musée Fabre in Montpellier (Inv.: 868.1.8). Velléda was a Gallic druidess, a character in François-René de Chateaubriand's (1768-1848) novel "Les Martyrs".
