(1589). ARISTOTE. THE ORGAN, i.e. the instrument of discours - Lot 409
(1589). ARISTOTE. THE ORGAN, i.e. the instrument of discourse divided into 2 parts, namely is the analytic, to discourse truly and the dialectic to discourse probably.
(Geneva), Jean de Tournes, 1589.
In-folio of [24]-751-[9] pages, basane, gilt medallion in the center of the boards, corner fleurons, gilt edges (period binding).
Rare first edition of the translation by Henri IV's ambassador and humanist Philippe de Canaye (1551-1610), an original work in which the author spread Aristotle's work, under the influence of Pierre Ramus and with the help of Isaac Casaubon. This book, which Canaye wrote in Lausanne, was printed by Jean de Tournes, who only obtained a 10-year privilege for it. The first table ends with an engraved medallion depicting Aristotle. Tired binding, stamp on title, foxing, scattered dampstains, minor worm work, but no damage to the text. (CDM, 125) (Cartier 679) (USTC, 34620).
