Paris, Mamert Patisson, 1579.
Small in-4° of [8]-149 (mal ch. 147)-[3] leaves, fawn calf, boards decorated with a large central azure motif surrounded by fleur-de-lys set in a lozenge, wide spandrels bound with fillets, spine ribbed, gilt and chased edges (period binding).
A curious work illustrated by Pierre Woeiriot. In addition to the author's portrait, printed here on a separate sheet rather than on the verso of the title, it contains 20 copper-engraved hors-texte plates and 5 wood-engraved figures of rigorous craftsmanship. The Priape is intact.
A fine, very pure copy in its richly decorated contemporary binding with finely chased edges. Minor restorations to spine and corners.
From the Roger Peyrefitte and S. Brunschwig (no. 466, cat. 1955). (Mortimer French n°350) (Schreiber n°254) (USTC 20821).
