(1570). JAMBLIQUE. DE MYSTERIIS AEGYPTIORUM, CHALDAEORUM, ASSYRIORUM. Proclus in platonicum Alcibiadem de anima atque daemone. Idem de Sacrificio & magia. Lyon, Jean de Tournes, 1570. In-16, 543-[1] pages, vellum, gilt fillet on covers, gilt Renaissance iron in center, gilt and chased edges (period binding). A precious document on the hermeticism and magic that flourished among the great peoples of antiquity, particularly in the East. Jamblicus attempted to unify the various polytheistic cults in opposition to Christianity. This is the aim of this book, divided into 12 philosophical treatises translated by Marsilio Ficino. A good copy in its original gilt-stamped vellum, with a binding defect on the first cover (Cartier 539) (Caillet, 549 "Fort rare"). (USTC 158290).
