Five-leaf Coromandel lacquer screen, China, 19th century
Each leaf on two legs, decorated on one side with a magnolia and a prunus in bloom, as well as peonies and chrysanthemums, flown over by butterflies, with a spider's web in one corner, framed by a frieze of flowering scrolls, and on the other side with a large lakeside landscape showing pavilions, bridge and boats, populated by scholars and their young servants, framed by a frieze of stylized chilong dragons.
Wear, cracks, chips, missing parts and restorations.
