First edition and fourth state with book announcement on back cover and correction on p. 12 ("s'embardissent" corrected during printing to "s'embardissant"). However, the following errors are also noted: on p. 31 and p. 108, the running title Les Fleurs du Mal is printed as Les Feurs du Mal; on p. 201, the word capiteux is mistakenly printed as captieux; p. 45 is numbered 44. The 6 pieces ordered to be suppressed have been carefully removed in this copy, which is enriched with the etching portrait on Chine by Bracquemond. Small dark stain at top of a few leaves, spine with small paper tears, untrimmed copy with original margins, (195 x 127 mm). (Clouzot, 43).
