Félix Delamarche was the son and successor, in 1817, of Charles François Delamarche (1740-1817), himself the successor of Jean Baptiste Fortin, globe-maker and publisher, who in 1778 bought the stock of Gilles Robert de Vaugondy (1723-86), but sold his business to Félix Delamarche in 1786. Fortin and the two Delamarche were pioneers in the production of globes for the general public, of which the one presented here is a fine example. An identical globe with this one is in the British Library, London. See Sylvia Sumira, The Art and History of Globes, 1014, 185.
